No word from YouTube, so don’t expect a part two on that review. Since late January I’ve been pretty busy working at the store. Tax season is the busier time of the year and I spend a lot of my time, vegging out, on days off. On Sunday, Danny and I had our Anti-Super Bowl Party and that was exciting because I didn’t have to watch football. In years past I just stared at the screen and waited for the 3 million dollar commercials. And I just saw halftime on YouTube and it was pretty pathetic, auto-tune is the death of us all!

Lately, I’ve been making weekly episodes of ‘News N’ Other Lies by Shanikwa Jones’ featuring my character, Shanikwa, which I created in 2003. Shanikwa gives you popular entertainment news and shares her special thoughts throughout the 5 minute episodes. Currently she’s on leave working on a special story debuting in two weeks, so we have other characters dropping by to do the news: Joey Monster and G-Pink. It’s a fun way to get the different characters out there in a more mainstream approach. However, I do it for me because I just don’t get the views I used to. If this is your first visit to my blog, feel free to watch anytime: J17Productions YouTube Channel.

In other news I’ve been working hard at developing a better website because it lacks what I want it to do. Most importantly JoeyBroyles.com is a tool that I use to promote the things I do and hopefully turn some sort of profit. Obviously the website will help better articulate my hobbies to someone who is looking to purchase a creation or hire me to create or perform. I’ve also been planning a gallery in late fall and the website has to look professional and easy to navigate. Definitely the site has been a work in progress but I’ll get there.

Screen Shot of JoeyBroyles.com

In preparation for making my new website I started watching tutorials on Javascript and I got to lesson 28. After lesson 28 things started going over my head. I did successfully make some sort of a game with alert and prompt windows, so feel free to be annoyed: GAME. It would probably take me another serious few weeks before I could move on from simple javascript to the more advanced. In general, I wanted to learn Javascript for a smooth looking Photo Gallery but I just went the easy route. I decided making several matching html docs was much easier than learning a new language. If anything, Javascript has made it a lot easier for me to read CSS in Dreamweaver and that’s a good thing!

It’s going to get a lot busier between all the projects I’m trying to tackle this year, so, bare with me if I only blog 4 times a month. And in the mean time be sure to check out my YouTube Channel and website for more details!

First let me start off by saying I am truly excited for tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow I embark on the adventure of finally being able to record my music the way I want to record it. I will no longer allow my eMac’s crappy microphone to dictate when my vocals are too powerful or too weak. There’s this thing in the music world called clipping that my eMac is very good at capturing.

VOCABULARY LESSON OF THE DAY:
Clipping is one form of distortion that occurs when an amplifier is overdriven, which happens when it attempts to increase voltage or current beyond its limits.

In a nutshell my vocals have always clipped so I’ve had to either turn the volume down on my voice or I’ve had to stand 5 to 10 feet away from my computer. And it’s really frustrating because you don’t get that sound you were originally looking for. It sounds quiet or subdued or just plain awful. All this of course changes tomorrow! I will be recording with this very nice setup in my own home. I purchased an SM57 Microphone, Pop Filter, Mic Stand, and the M-Audio Fast Track USB Audio Interface:

It’s all pretty exciting and the equipment is easy to use, easier to use than a PC that is!

I’ll be working on my song If U Luv Me that I’ve been working on close to a month now. It really is hard work if it’s your first time recording. Now of course with only two days off a week and a vacation in the middle of everything, I haven’t had the time to focus on just the song. But now that all this stuff is out of the way I can focus on my song! If all goes well, I’ll be putting my song up on iTunes in a matter of weeks! Very exciting.

Then the focus turns toward the music video that my friends and I will be making to correspond with the song. Now this particular song is half-comedian/half-serious and in no particular order. I am all of things I refer to in the song, but in truth I’m looking to make you laugh and to make get your groove on too! Hopefully I can accomplish both!

Now I’ve got to of course finish what I’ve started so I am! And then it’s back to giving Shanikwa some spotlight time. I really needed a break because portraying her is a lot of hard work! I hope to finish recording Lnz’s scenes, Jamie’s scenes, and of course the Poetry Jam Sesssion Scene! Then I just have to piece the scenes together and score and such. But I think writing an actual song first will really help me to score it, I’m no John Williams but I can make it good!

After Shanikwa there are some other songs I definitely hope to work on. Here are some rough titles that you may or may not recognize:

•Sugar Slinger
•Sorry
•Untitled Zac Baltzer Infatuation Song
•The Shit
•Hating on Miley Cyrus Song
•11/19/07
•The Shit
•Hollywood Makes U Feel Good

I know I’m not exactly a teen idol or a heart throb, but there is a reason I keep getting all of these ideas. Some singers weren’t really anything until they were 30 years old. In a perfect world I would’ve loved to have been famous two years ago, which was my naive-seventeen-year-old-escapism-plan. But now that I’m not running, the music is running to me. I have lots of ideas and things in my head that I need to get out and release creatively. If I don’t do these things I may as well end my life because these are all parts of me that I have to express.

I’m not just a writer, I’m also an actor. I’m not just an actor, I’m also a singer. I’m not just a performer, I’m also a creative being. I need to express myself in more than one format. Everything I’ve ever done was for the benefit of making me smile and making me feel good and making others feel good. If I don’t participate in the modern world I cease to exist. Everyone should experience these things because it really makes you grow and understand who you are.

Here is my recommended mix that I think will inspire you as it has me. It’s not a heart felt mix, but there is definitely a driving force that makes you feel great!

Finally it has been done. When I am bored or when I am not bored, it doesn’t really matter, I Google Image myself. I like to see myself at the top of the list and well, for a while here I wasn’t! It angered me so much. When I Google: JOEY BROYLES, I expect Joey not Joe Broyles from Ohio who looks like my father as a teenager. Is it possible that my Dad has another kid floating around competing with me on Google Images? Probably not, but the resemblance is a little more than uncanny. Anyways I fixed this problem with posting a bunch of pictures of myself and making damn sure to name them each JoeyBroyles_001.jpg, etc. Here are my results:

Joey is back at the top! Long lost brother: #4!

Joey is back at the top! Long lost brother: #4!

I’d like to thank Google for creating a new way for one to be vain. I’m definitely happy with the results and will have to stay on top of this, so it doesn’t happen again. The first three images were all mine and that makes me super happy.

In other news Danny and I had a relaxing Easter Sunday. Sometimes you just need to get away from family and make time for yourselves. So we did just that. We spent time with each other! We slept until 10am and then rolled out of bed. I showered and checked my Facebook and Twitter, such addictions! Then we took off to see Adventureland!

I loved it! It was a great movie set in the 80s. One of the greatest decades to do movies in. In fact I don’t think one understands a decade until it has passed and taken time to age. Decades are like wine, not to be appreciated until after they’ve aged. Never mind that I hate all wine! On with the show, Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg are beautiful and amazing and it really had everything you wanted in a movie. So now of course I’m dying to have the soundtrack, but more importantly I want a Games T-shirt from Adventureland! I’ll wait a few weeks to see if Target is cool enough to carry such a shirt and if not I’ll be on the internet searching until I find the exact one.

After the movie we went downtown Madison and toured the Capitol ourselves. Just looking at the pretty insides of the marble beauty. We were there until 4, when they close. We then walked State Street just window shopping and getting exercise. We stopped at the Exclusive Company and I totally wanted all the Melrose Place DVDs, but I guess I’ll start asking for those for my birthday and Christmas.

State Street grew tired of us, so we left and went out to eat at Perkin’s. Where I’m pretty sure our waitress forget to suggest pie, which means we could have collected free pie, oh well I was full anyway. Especially with all this Easter candy, everywhere! I bought way too much, oh well, sweet tooth.

When we got home we just sort of chilled and have been doing our own thing. Of course every so often we bug each other with little fun tid bits of information. But you do need space in a relationship, peeps! Anyhow I’ve been editing Shanikwa’s website and now it’s done. Here’s a screen shot of it’s new beauty, which includes an all new bio!

F.Y.I. Gossip Girl fans, the Easter Bunny brought me Edward Cullen pins and Gossip Girl the Board Game! I played against Danny tonight and finally I beat him. Ha! HA! Ha! I feel as giddy as a school girl! That’s right a school girl. Ain’t no shame! Bitch please! Well I’ve got to start working on this Shanikwa song I’m writing, so later!

Clearly for the past few years you’ve heard of either Stephanie Meyer, Twilight, or Edward in passing conversations. Teenage girl phenomena? No I beg to differ. I’d like to personally thank Stephanie Meyer one day for what she did for me.

Twilight Collage

Twilight Collage

I was no longer a reader and in fact the last book I had read was in high school. But then came along this Twilight series. The last book arrived in stores last year and it was now going to become a major motion picture. There was this stir going around the world about vampires again. I loved Anne Rice for her stories such as Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and Queen of The Damned. As I looked through the Entertainment Weekly magazine with these vampires who could live in sunlight. Stupid, right?

October 31st rolled around and I celebrated Halloween, as Danny drove to Florida to help his parents move. I was alone for six, seven days for a very important election and a very important discovery. While I was alone I decided after work one night to go to Wal-Mart and buy some comfort food. I walked out with some pizza, soda, apples and Twilight. Well I didn’t read it at first and wondered why on earth did I buy a book. Well I had Twilight all to myself for the next six days. I finished the book before Danny returned and I was now in love! I finished Breaking Dawn just a few days after my birthday in December. Ahhhh.

These books are a beautiful thing and I’m glad to have them be a part of my life. Now the movie on the other hand is its own package. Robert Pattinson takes Edward to his own place and I like that place a whole lot, so haters get over it. Catherine Hardwicke took Twilight to the place it needed to go and it was amazing. I’m sad to say I won’t be going to a Twilight DVD release party, but I’m happy to say that Twilight will be in my hands Monday night:

TWILIGHT from Target Only!

TWILIGHT from Target Only!

I do admit that Wal-Mart has taken this a little overboard:

This is at the Super Wal-Mart in Madison, WI.

This is at the Super Wal-Mart in Madison, WI.

Now of course how stupid is it that there are no guy t-shirts or guy Twilight anything? Oh wait I know! Only girls are allowed to fall in love with these books and the movies! Totally makes sense to me. I’m so over society’s bullshit.
"In the early 1900s, color became popular and people who chose to dress their children in conventional colors were advised to dress girls in blue and boys in pink. Blue was considered delicate and exquisite and pink strong and masculine."

All of you who think as moronic as pink is for girls, blue is for boys. If we’re really going to have to be politically correct about everything, let us let go of pink for girls, blue for boys. It’s so ridiculous because once in our history the colors were reversed: pink is an origin of red, thus meaning, strength and masculinity and blue was considered to be delicate. Wow what fools we are. Read this article and GOOGLE more if you don’t believe! Clearly I’m on the right track here.

Back to Twilight and other girly phenomena. Is there a society in the world who does not think as backwards as we do? If there is please let me know, otherwise I’m moving to Mars with Dr. Manhattan and his peaceful red planet!

Let's move here!

Let's move here!

Back on Earth. I finished wiring L/R wires through my office wall/living room wall and hooked it up to our stereo in the living room. Now when I edit my movies I can both watch and hear them in the living room. Thanks Dad for the two 20 ft wires! They were seriously sitting in a box collecting dust, but now they will help out my hobby immensely. Yay for Shanikwa because her movie has three complete finished scenes, at least visually finished.

I spent most of yesterday or today, however you look at it, Thursday night, Friday morning. I spent Thursday doing laundry, editing my movie and hanging out with my family. I’m glad to say that my sister Jackie is now a proud owner of one of those Twilight Tote Bags, super jealous, but boys like action movies and chicks, so I digress. Fuck that I like gooey teen angst and boys!

Goodnight Bitches!

WARNING RANT!

I believe those of us who blog better enjoy writing as a first love because not everyone is always reading. Those who are often read are either one of the famous or controversial bloggers, end of discussion. I am not famous and only have a small following. So as an experiment I think I’ll try marketing my blog as something you have to read, but how on Earth is the question. Simple I become one of those online 15 minute whores such as Perez Hilton.

Enough said.

Enough said.

Now let’s get things straight with this fool, I don’t get his show, What Perez Sez at all! As far as his website is concerned he has style, but when it comes to VH1, there’s no grace. Here’s someone famous for being a bit eccentric with special talents for using Microsoft Paint and sarcasm to get his point across. Now of course everyone has their day in the sun, but really VH1? I Love New York, is one thing but I didn’t think anything could be worse than The Hills. But Perez has managed to take VH1 lower than MTV.

And Britney Spears, what the fuck? How could you even let him do anything for you after all the shit he’s said about you. If you don’t know what I’m referring to then here’s the shit-that-hits-my-fan! Perez talks all this shit about her and gives her an award for biggest train wreck of 2007 and not even two years later she has him do the intro to her tour! Now how sweet is that, she could rise above, but it’s still bullshit. Maybe that episode of Family Guy was right, be mean to girls and then they’ll like you. What the fuck?!

So here’s my idea! I’ll use my character Shanikwa as a way to attack Perez Hilton. Because I don’t like him, neither does Shanikwa. Now if you have no idea who Shanikwa is and we are friends you’ve clearly been living under a rock! Look below!

Those of course are my two favorite! There are several more that you can just watch on my YouTube page. I’ve been working on the movie for almost two years now. I have most of the footage shot, just the editing and creating a reputable soundtrack have been the holdups! It’s a crazy, low budget, indie(if you will) film about a coming of age mother who is trying to balance her career and motherhood! And of course she has a crazy best friend with multiple personalities who wants to kill her. Yay!

‘m not so interested in people reading my blog as just paying attention to me. Those six years of being an only child really stuck and I’ve had the fame bug ever since. It’s a terrible bug to catch because some may look at you as a dreamer, but you know what, I’m fine with being a dreamer. I just wish I could be a doer to! What I need is to focus a little harder and try to market myself, however one does that! I’ll try this:

This story begins with Perez smiling and then ends with Shanikwa!

This story begins with Perez smiling and then ends with Shanikwa!

If you are at all confused by that short animation… The first frame is when Perez is unharmed and all smiles and tilts his head this way and that and then it should make more sense. It ends with the J17 Productions logo, which should help you know where the beginning is.

Anyway fuck Perez, he’s over.

My given name is Joseph Daniel Thomas Broyles. Of course that is a mouth full of words so you can just call me Joey. Born December 15th, 1983 in the Milwaukee-area of Wisconsin. That’s the very basic information that you could pay to find out about me. Currently I’m residing in Madison, Wisconsin and work at a furniture store with my boy of plus five years, Danny. He’s my man and I do get really mad at him sometimes but if I left him I’d be beside myself. Danny is my boy.

I grew up in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin with the idea of one day becoming really famous, so far I’m pretty content with the fact that when you GOOGLE my name I at least show up number one. But as far as famous really goes, I’m not there yet. I want to be, but we all have dreams. Dreams are pretty damn important to hold on to because they get you through all the bullshit days. I identify myself a lot with all those famous stars out in Hollywood and New York. However, I identify more with the author Augusten Burroughs, he’s the super spicy salsa whereas I’m closer to a medium salsa. His memoir, Running With Scissors, that’s no bull my step mother is exactly like his mother. As far as my real mother goes I have yet to have the courage to deal with her and her schizophrenia. But I’m sure I love her. I’ve got a whole lot of brothers and sisters from both parents.

That would be me! Very messy hair today.

That would be me! Very messy hair today.

JACKIE

FROM LINDA’S PREVIOUS MARRIAGE:

BRENT

FROM SHELLY(MOM) W/ OTHER GUY:
BLAINE
CRYSTAL

FROM SHELLY W/ OTHER GUY:
WISPER KATIE

6 Half Brothers/Sisters and 2 Step Brothers/Sisters. A whole lot of love.

I have really close relationships with Evan and Jackie because I grew up with them. With Brigette we use to have a very close relationship but she’s in college so, we’ll see if it changes later in life. With Brent we talk but it’s hard to find some common ground with him because we are so different. Blaine and Crystal I have what I call an established relationship with them, but I dearly love them and wish I would make more of an effort to hang with them. I wish we all lived in the same town at the very least. With Miya and Wisper I have an internet relationship with them and because they still live with our mother I haven’t met them yet. So that’s my family description.

Things I do for fun and things I do for hopeful business ventures:
I design t-shirts for myself and for sale. Collect them all at J17Productions.com. I designed the whole site and will in fact talk about my store a little here and there. I’ve got a FACEBOOK and a MYSPACE, but shouldn’t you all? I have four MYSPACEs all together.
MYSPACE
J17MYSPACE
JOEYBROYLES MYSPACE
SHANIKWAJONES MYSPACE
Don’t worry I’ll explain those throughout my whole life. Jesus Christ would someone tell that fucker down the way to shut his god damned bass off! OMG! I’m going to have to go outside and scream at him with a switch for real.

My J17 Productions site hosts a lot of my hobbies which I’m trying to turn into a sort of freelance business. Custom designs with graphics. Entertainment. ETC!

I’ve been into designing graphics since I was in fourth grade and saw my father freehand a squirrel on Photoshop. Yet I’ve also been into writing for just as long. But of course I’m also into performance of all kinds. I love acting and love singing. Now I’m by no means the greatest of any of these things but I’m good at them and if they were my only job I’d be closer to greatness. I have a sickness which has certain symptoms: music, film, and writing.

Stay Tuned.
